I think the local council should keep the existing street name to preserve history.
Street names are part of a city’s identity and help us remember important people or events from the past. Changing the name may cause us to forget our roots and the stories that shaped our community.
Historical names also teach the younger generation about the past. They can ask questions and learn more about local history, which helps build respect and pride for where they live.
In addition, changing a street name can cause confusion. Maps, signs, and addresses would all need updates. This may lead to problems for businesses, mail delivery, and emergency services.
While modern values are important, we can show those values in other ways, such as community programs or events.
For these reasons, I believe keeping the original street name is the best way to honor history and keep our community connected.
